Idiot Poisons Family With Mushrooms She Picked from Her Backyard

When you hear stories like this you assume some hippies thought they scored some free magic mushrooms, but in this case a 40-year-old house wife from Connecticut walked into her backyard, picked up some mushrooms seemingly at random then sauteed them with garlic and served them to her family.

Hilarity did not ensue:

A Connecticut family ended up hospitalized, with one woman gravely ill, after eating mushrooms picked from their yard.

Shah Noor, 40, collected the big, white mushrooms from behind her house in Newington and cooked them with onions, garlic and chili peppers. She served the toxic feast to her husband and two adult daughters.

The entire family ended up at the hospital the next day, with 24-year-old Wafa Guloona suffering the most severe symptoms. Her liver nearly shut down and she required days of treatment, including a cocktail of experimental drugs.

I was really scared. And it was really painful to see all my family members in the same situation,” Guloona told WTIC-TV.

Noor, husband Musarat Ullah, 59, and another daughter, Aiman Bibi, 21, were also admitted to the emergency ward and treated with “a charcoal solution that absorbs the toxins and a drug known as N-Acetylcysteine, which helps restore damaged liver cells,” the Hartford Courant reported.

WTIC Daughter Wafa Guloona, 24, suffered the most severe medical problems. Her liver shut down, which required days of treatment and experimental drugs.

Noor was apparently unaware that wild mushrooms can be lethal. Musarat Ullah said it was common to pick and eat mushrooms in their native Pakistan.

This isn’t Pakistan. New immigrants or not these people should at least hit a library before randomly picking things to eat. You don’t need to grow up in America to realize that.

The Great Long Island Alligator Horde!

Long Island, NY may well be the setting of a modern day horror movie if these reports are right. SIX alligators have been caught in the area recently which means either someone had a lot of pet alligators that they’re dumping or Long Island is being invaded … by an alligator army!

From MYFoxNY:

MYFOXNY.COM – Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals officials say a three-foot long alligator was found in a park on Long Island Saturday.

SPCA officials said the alligator was found at Lily Pond County Park in an area where children play. Officials said the alligator could not have survived the cold weather if it wasn’t discovered.

The reptile was rescued from the water and taken to a wildlife rescue center.

This is the sixth alligator found on Long Island in less than a month. Five of which have been found in Suffolk County in addition to a Boa Constrictor, a Rattlesnake and an Iguana.

Anyone with information about the alligator’s release is asked to call Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722.

When I was 20 I worked in real estate management and the one of the women I worked with was married to a sewer worker. He said there were indeed animals in the sewers because parts of the system are warm year round and the system is so vast some areas are unobserved for months at a time. But this does seem like a pet dump.

Or a plot by a super villain to cause chaos.

Harvesting Road Killed Deer

Dual Survival alum Dave Canterbury has been working hard on the Pathfinder School YouTube channel sharing some valuable skills for the 21st Century Longhunter as he terms it. One skill we all should be learning is taking advantage of every opportunity to attain resources for you and your family. I suspect we will all be putting that sort of skill to the test in the next few years.

For me what’s most interesting in this presentation is not the processing of the deer but the discussion of how he gets these carcasses. Canterbury works out a deal with local authorities to remove road kill deer which saves him money and puts meat in his freezer. You can probably work out a similar deal.

The Great North Carolina Bee Heist!

Over 20,000 bees were stolen from a bee keeper in Alamance County, N.C. in a bizarre crime that, oddly, only cost the victim a few grand:

A beekeeper said he went to check on his bees and found all 20,000 of them stolen last week in Burlington.

Mike Ross said the honey bees he spent hours on were stolen off Moran Street. He said he was working on moving them into another yard and describes the insects as “gentle.”

Ross said he has no idea who would steal them. He said he lost about $75 in equipment and $100 per colony of bees.

Here’s a sketch of the suspect:

Here’s a video report:
